On Monday, August 24, with the world premiere of the movie Storkman, a story about Malena and Klepetan by Tomislav Jelinčić, the 18th Liburnia Film Festival will officially open its doors. The festival lasts until August 28, and is held on the small Summer Stage and Villa Antonio in Opatija.
For the 18th year in a row, a real treat of documentary film is taking place in our neighborhood – Liburnija Film Festival.
Liburnia Film Festival (LFF) is the first documentary film festival in Croatia and the only festival screening only the latest in Croatian documentaries. In this year’s, 18th edition, which will be held from 24th to 28th August on the Summer Stage in Opatija, you will be able to enjoy a special edition of the festival.
This year we have a partnership between Liburnia Film Festival with the Rijeka 2020 program – European Capitals of Culture and a special international program entitled State of Emergency, which includes six international documentaries. These are excellent documentary achievements that record the extremes of our political present, regardless of whether they take place in “old” democracies or in the “problematic east”.
The State of Emergency will, in addition to talking to directors, live or video call, including a masterclass lecture and a round table on typical nationalisms and movements aimed at collapsing pluralism and fundamental values of civilization.
